Najčešći kvarovi na Renault

Iz iskustva naše radionice u Banja Luci - šta najčešće dolazi na popravku i na šta obratiti pažnju prije nego što se kvar pogorša.

  1. 01 /

Injectors on the 1.5 dCi engine

Hard cold starts, rough idle, knocking from the top of the engine, black smoke under acceleration.

Uzrok /Copper washers under the 1.5 dCi injectors (Megane II, III, Clio III, Scenic, Kangoo) lose their seal and start leaking combustion gases. If ignored, soot damages the injector seat in the cylinder head. The 1.5 dCi is actually a durable engine, but it demands regular care.

Popravka /First we measure injector return flow to find which ones are overloaded. Replacing the copper washers and cleaning the seats is a cheap job if done early. When injectors are genuinely bad we send them to a specialist or replace them.

    Turbocharger on the 1.5 dCi

Loss of power above 2500 rpm, whistling that grows with revs, blue smoke, oil in the intercooler.

Uzrok /Early 1.5 dCi turbos have weak bearings and a vacuum actuator that fails. Often the real problem is stretched oil change intervals - the turbo needs clean oil, and without it the bearing is the first thing to go.

Popravka /If caught early, sometimes a vacuum actuator replacement is enough. If the bearing is already worn, the turbo needs rebuild or replacement. While at it we inspect the lubrication system and recommend shorter oil change intervals.

Timing chain on the 1.2 TCe engine

Metallic rattle on cold start, knocking from the engine that gets worse, unstable idle, check engine with timing-related codes.

Uzrok /The 1.2 TCe petrol engine (Clio IV, Captur, Megane III) has chronic timing chain issues. The chain stretches prematurely, often as early as 60-80,000 km. The tensioner does not hold pressure and the chain starts to jump teeth. This is a well-known design issue.

Popravka /We replace the complete timing chain including guides and tensioner. Do not delay - if the chain jumps, the engine is gone. After replacement, shorter oil change intervals are mandatory because the chain system needs clean oil.

    EGR valve and cooler

Loss of power, check engine light, black smoke, car enters limp mode.

Uzrok /On the 1.5 dCi and 1.9 dCi the EGR cooler gets clogged with soot and cracks, letting coolant enter the EGR system and intake. Often the EGR valve itself clogs at the same time. City driving and short trips accelerate the process.

Popravka /We run diagnostics to see whether the issue is only in the EGR valve or whether the cooler has cracked. We clean the intake and replace the EGR valve or cooler as needed. If coolant has entered the engine, act immediately.

Electronics and key card (Megane II)

Car does not recognise the card, will not start, 'card not detected' on the display, steering lock will not release.

Uzrok /Megane II uses a card instead of a key, and the card reader, steering lock module and card itself are all weak spots. The card battery drains, the reader wears out, and the steering lock module can jam.

Popravka /First we check the card battery - it is the cheapest fix. If the fault runs deeper, we diagnose the reader and steering lock module. Replacing the steering lock module requires coding with a diagnostic tool.

    Window regulators and small electrics

Window will not go up, clicking from the door, glass falls inside the door; parking sensors or central locking act up.

Uzrok /The plastic guide in the window regulator is structurally weak on Megane II and Scenic, and breaks in normal use. It is not driver fault, it is a known design flaw. Small electrics (sensors, locks) suffer from moisture and corrosion.

Popravka /Replacing the window regulator is quick and cheap - parts are always in stock. For electronics we run diagnostics and make targeted repairs, we do not swap whole modules unnecessarily.

04 / SAVJETIŠta pratiti na Renault

Šta pratiti na Renault

Mali savjeti koji produžavaju vijek motora i smanjuju račune za popravku.

  1. 01 /

On a 1.5 dCi, change oil every 10,000 km instead of 15. The shorter interval protects both the turbo and the injectors. It is the best investment in engine longevity.

  2. 02 /

If you hear a metallic rattle on cold start on a 1.2 TCe, do not ignore it - that is the timing chain and it needs urgent inspection before it jumps.

  3. 03 /

On a Megane II, keep a spare card battery in the car. When the battery dies the car will not start, and replacing it takes less than a minute.

  4. 04 /

Injector knock on a 1.5 dCi is a classic sign of leaking copper washers. Coming in early means a cheaper repair - the difference can be between 150 and 800 KM.

  5. 05 /

French cars are not 'unreliable', they simply ask for a more attentive owner. Respect the service intervals, listen to the engine, react to warning lights. Treated this way, they last.

  6. 06 /

When buying a used 1.2 TCe, always ask whether the timing chain has been replaced. If not, factor that into the price.

  7. 07 /

City driving is the enemy of the EGR system. Take the car on the open road for at least 30 minutes once a week - the engine will thank you.

Q /Do you service Renault in Banja Luka?
Yes. Auto Gas Gaga works on Renault vehicles every day - Clio II/III/IV, Megane I/II/III, Laguna, Scenic, Captur, Kangoo and Twingo. The workshop is at Njegoševa 44, open Monday to Friday 08-17, Saturday 08-13. Call +387 65 701 308 to book.
Q /Which Renault engine do you repair most often?
Our most frequent guest is the 1.5 dCi - fitted in Megane II, Megane III, Clio III, Scenic and Kangoo. A good engine but it demands attention to oil and injectors. The 1.2 TCe with its timing chain issue is also common.
Q /Is it true that Renault is expensive to maintain?
No, provided you respect the intervals and act in time. Parts for the most common models (Megane, Clio, Scenic) are affordable. Problems appear when injector knock or chain noise gets ignored - that is when repairs become expensive.
Q /My Megane II will not recognise the card, what should I do?
Most often the cause is the card battery or the card reader. Come in for diagnostics so we can find the exact issue. In most cases the fix is simple and cheap - you do not need to replace the whole system.
Q /Do you replace timing chains on the 1.2 TCe?
Yes, we replace the complete timing chain with guides and tensioner. This job needs patience and an experienced mechanic, and we have done it many times on Clio IV, Captur and Megane III.
Q /How much does diagnostics cost on a Renault?
Computer diagnostics typically take 20 to 40 minutes. Afterwards we explain the fault, the parts needed and the total cost. We agree on the work before anything starts - no surprises at the end.
Q /Do you have parts for Megane 2 and Clio 3?
We order Renault parts regularly and they are usually available quickly. For Megane 2 and Clio 3 the aftermarket offer is broad and the prices are reasonable. We confirm the specific date and cost after inspection.
Q /Can you fit LPG on a Renault Clio?
Yes. Renault Clio, Megane and Scenic with petrol engines are common candidates for LPG conversion. The investment pays off especially if you drive more than 15,000 km per year. Come in and we will calculate the payback for your car.
