    Injectors on the 1.5 dCi engine (Renault tech)

    Hard cold starts, rough idle, black smoke under acceleration, knocking from the top of the engine.

    Uzrok /Nissan Qashqai J10, J11, Juke and Pulsar with the 1.5 dCi engine use the Renault K9K unit, the same as in Megane and Scenic. Copper washers under the injectors lose their seal and leak combustion gases. Local fuel quality accelerates wear, so injectors typically need overhaul between 120,000 and 150,000 km.

    Popravka /We measure injector return flow to find which ones are overloaded. Replacing the copper washers and cleaning the seats is a cheap job if done early. When injectors are genuinely bad we send them to a specialist or replace them.

    DPF filter and regeneration

    DPF warning light on, power loss, car enters limp mode, increased fuel consumption.

    Uzrok /Short city trips do not allow the DPF to regenerate properly. On Qashqai and Juke with the 1.5 dCi this is one of the most common reasons for a workshop visit. The filter gradually clogs with soot and the engine loses power.

    Popravka /We run a forced regeneration with diagnostic equipment. If the filter is severely clogged we clean or replace it. We recommend driving on the open road for 20 to 30 minutes at least once a week.

    Turbocharger on 1.5 dCi and 2.0 dCi

    Power loss above 2500 rpm, whistling that grows with revs, blue smoke, oil in the intercooler.

    Uzrok /On the 1.5 dCi the turbo has weak bearings in early versions, while the X-Trail 2.0 dCi (M9R engine) turbo demands regular oil changes. Extended oil intervals are the main turbo killer on both engines.

    Popravka /If caught early, sometimes a vacuum actuator replacement or VGT decarbonisation is enough. When bearings are worn we overhaul or replace the turbo. We always inspect the oil return line as well.

    CVT transmission - overheating and slipping

    Juddering under acceleration, a slipping sensation, overheating in city traffic, transmission warning light.

    Uzrok /Nissan is one of the biggest users of CVT (continuously variable) transmissions. On Qashqai J11, Juke and X-Trail with a petrol engine the CVT needs attention. Overheating in city traffic and neglected oil changes cause the internal belt to slip.

    Popravka /We run diagnostics and check the CVT oil condition. Preventive oil changes at 40,000 to 50,000 km are key. For more advanced issues we refer to a transmission specialist, but diagnostics and oil changes we handle ourselves.

    EGR valve on dCi engines

    Power loss, black smoke, check engine light, car enters limp mode.

    Uzrok /On all Nissan models with 1.5 dCi and 2.0 dCi the EGR valve clogs with soot deposits. City driving and short trips accelerate the process. The problem is identical to Renault vehicles because the engine is the same.

    Popravka /We remove the valve, clean it mechanically and ultrasonically. If damaged, we replace it. We also clean the intake manifold and inspect the crankcase breather hoses.

    Wheel bearings and shock absorbers

    Humming from the underside that grows with speed, clunking over bumps, instability in corners.

    Uzrok /Qashqai and Juke are crossovers that are heavier than regular hatchbacks yet drive on the same roads. Their wheel bearings and shock absorbers work under higher loads and wear faster, especially on poor road surfaces.

    Popravka /Bearing replacement is routine work for us. We replace shock absorbers in pairs (left and right on the same axle) to keep the car stable. We always check the springs and rubber suspension components as well.

    On a 1.5 dCi change oil every 10,000 km - same engine as Renault, same needs. Short intervals protect the turbo and injectors.

    If you drive a Qashqai or Juke mostly in the city, take the car on the open road for 20 to 30 minutes at least once a week. The DPF will thank you.

    CVT transmissions need an oil change every 40,000 to 50,000 km, not the 100,000 some recommend. Cheap oil today means an expensive transmission tomorrow.

    A Nissan with a 1.5 dCi engine is essentially a Renault under the hood. Parts are affordable and identical to Megane or Scenic.

    Petrol Nissan Juke and Qashqai with the 1.2 DIG-T or 1.6 engine are good LPG conversion candidates. The investment pays off especially at higher annual mileage.

    Do not ignore humming from the wheels on crossover models - a neglected bearing will damage the brake disc too.

Q /Which Nissan engine do you repair most often?
The most frequent guest is the 1.5 dCi - the same Renault K9K engine found in Qashqai, Juke and Pulsar. A good engine but it demands attention to injectors, turbo and DPF. On the X-Trail T31 we also work on the 2.0 dCi (M9R) which shares tech with the Renault Laguna.
Q /Is the Nissan Qashqai with 1.5 dCi reliable?
The engine is reliable if service intervals are respected. The weak spots are the injectors and DPF on city duty. With regular maintenance and sensible driving, the Qashqai is a good family choice.
Q /Do you work on Nissan CVT transmissions?
We handle diagnostics and CVT oil changes. For major repairs we refer to an automatic transmission specialist, but timely oil changes prevent the majority of problems.
