    Turbo actuator on 1.6 HDi (DV6 engine)

    Power loss above 2500 rpm, the car will not pull, check engine light, sometimes an audible whistle or knocking from the engine bay.

    Uzrok /The 1.6 HDi engine (a shared PSA and Ford unit) has a vacuum actuator for the variable geometry turbo that wears out. Diaphragms split, vacuum hoses leak, and the VGT vanes no longer move correctly. The result is power loss and higher consumption. The same fault appears on the Peugeot 308 1.6 HDi - the block is practically identical.

    Popravka /In most cases we replace only the actuator, not the whole turbo - that is the difference between a few hundred and a few thousand KM. After fitting we decarbonise the intake and run an intake pressure test to confirm everything works.

  2. 02 /

    BSI module - power drain and flat battery

    Car will not start in the morning even with a new battery, electronics behave strangely, lights come on or go off by themselves, central locking does not respond, current drain when the car is parked.

    Uzrok /BSI (Boitier de Servitude Intelligent) is the central module that controls all comfort features on Citroen - lights, locks, windows, alarm. When the BSI develops a fault it will not go to sleep and drains current from the battery overnight. A typical problem on C3, C4 and C5 models, especially after 10 years of age.

    Popravka /We measure parked current draw and identify which circuit is pulling power. Sometimes the fix is a BSI reset, sometimes a firmware update, in more serious cases module repair or replacement. Owners who go to the dealer end up paying a fortune before the issue is resolved - we do the job at a far lower cost.

    Hydraulic (Hydractive) suspension on C5

    The car sits low on one or both sides, will not rise, you can hear the pump running dry, suspension warning light on the dash.

    Uzrok /C5 I and II have the Hydractive hydraulic suspension - brilliant when it works, a headache when it does not. Spheres lose pressure, the high-pressure pump weakens, lines leak LDS fluid. Many mechanics refuse to touch this system because it requires specific knowledge and parts.

    Popravka /We run pressure diagnostics on each circuit, replace spheres that are below spec, inspect the pump and replace worn lines. We use proper LDS fluid, not standard ATF. Repairing Hydractive is absolutely feasible and cost-effective - you just need someone who knows the system.

  4. 04 /

    DPF and EGR valve on 1.6 and 2.0 HDi

    Blinking DPF light, smell of fuel in the oil, power loss, EGR juddering in motion, higher consumption, oil level rising above max.

    Uzrok /City driving and short trips do not allow the DPF to regenerate, so the filter fills with soot. Incomplete regeneration dilutes the oil with fuel - dangerous for the bearings. At the same time the EGR valve fills with soot and starts to stick, which only accelerates DPF clogging. A classic problem on all 1.6 and 2.0 HDi engines.

    Popravka /We professionally clean the DPF, with or without removing it depending on its state. We remove and clean or replace the EGR valve. We always change the engine oil after the job because it is fuel-diluted and no longer protective.

  5. 05 /

    Timing belt and water pump

    Squealing or rattling from the timing cover, coolant leak, in the worst case the engine will not start after the belt breaks.

    Uzrok /On 1.6 HDi, 2.0 HDi and 1.6 16V petrol, Citroen uses a rubber timing belt with factory intervals of 120,000 to 150,000 km. Many owners delay - and when the belt breaks, valves hit the pistons and the repair bill jumps tenfold.

    Popravka /We replace the belt together with the tensioner, idlers and water pump. The pump is driven by the timing belt so there is no sense replacing the belt without also replacing the pump. We recommend preventive replacement even on a low-mileage car - rubber ages even at rest.

    Rear beam bearings on C4 and C5

    A humming from the rear that grows with speed, changes tone on turns, vibrations in the steering.

    Uzrok /C4 and C5 use a rear torsion beam with integrated bearings at the ends. Those bearings wear after 120,000 to 150,000 km, especially on our roads. Replacing just the bearing is technically demanding - sometimes pressing is needed, or full hub replacement.

    Popravka /We replace the bearing with the hub, or, if the torsion beam itself is in bad shape, advise a good used beam. We always check both sides because they usually wear similarly.

    We know French electronics - we do not charge dealer prices, but we do solve BSI and diagnostic problems.

    On a 1.6 HDi check oil level every 2,000 km - if the level is rising, fuel is entering the oil and an immediate change is required.

    If you have a C5 with hydraulic suspension, once a year ask for a sphere and pressure check - preventive sphere replacement is ten times cheaper than a full system failure.

  4. 04 /

    On C3 and C4 cars that sit in the garage for a few days and then will not start - do not blame the battery before the BSI module has been checked.

  5. 05 /

    On HDi engines change the timing belt strictly at the factory interval - a broken belt costs ten times more than preventive work.

  6. 06 /

    For the DPF, drive at least 20 minutes on the open road once a week so regeneration can complete, especially in winter when the engine stays cold longer.

Q /Do you service the Citroen C4 1.6 HDi in Banja Luka?
Yes, regularly. The 1.6 HDi (DV6) engine is one of the most common diesels in our workshop because it is shared with the Peugeot 308, 207, 307 and Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi. We do turbo actuator, DPF, EGR, injector and timing belt work - everything this engine needs.
Q /My Citroen C3 drains the battery overnight - how much does a BSI fix cost?
The price depends on the root cause - sometimes a reset and firmware update is enough, sometimes the BSI module needs repair or replacement. First we run a parked current draw diagnostic to find which circuit is pulling current, and then we give a realistic quote before any work.
Q /Do you work on the hydraulic suspension on the Citroen C5?
We do. Hydractive is our specialty for French cars. We replace spheres, the high-pressure pump, lines and top up with proper LDS fluid. We do not improvise with standard parts - we use what the system requires.
Q /How long does a timing belt last on a Citroen C4 1.6 HDi?
The factory interval is 120,000 to 150,000 km, but we recommend earlier replacement if the car is more than 6 years old regardless of mileage. Rubber ages even on a parked car.
Q /My Berlingo is losing power on the road - what is the most likely cause?
On a 1.6 HDi Berlingo the most common cause is the turbo actuator or a clogged EGR valve, and on a 2.0 HDi it can also be the DPF or injectors. We identify the exact cause through diagnostics and an intake pressure test - we do not want to replace parts blindly.
